our team
Dr. Jean S. Brennan – a native of San Rafael, is a graduate of The UC-Berkeley School of Optometry, the international leader in eye and vision research. She worked on the Buck Center’s Vision and Aging Project for three years, where studies found, our vision doesn’t need to decline with time and that maximizing older patient’s vision will be crucial as we all hope to have long, active careers. Dr. Brennan joined Marin Optometry in 2002.
One of the things she loves about optometry is that it enables her to work with patients from a wide group of ages and has a deep interest in children’s vision and its importance in learning. Dr. Brennan is a member of the American Optometric Association and the California Optometric Association a volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity & University of California Optometry Alumni Association. She helps support the Sierra Club, the Pt. Reyes National Seashore Association, the Boys and Girls Club of Marin and Southern Sonoma Counties, the Buck Center for Research on Aging and Marin Academy.
She and her husband Tim live in Petaluma with their son, Teo and when she’s not with patients at Marin Optometry enjoys hiking in their coastal range, photography and skiing.

Our Legacy
Dr. John Hoag first opened our office in 1937; as the first optometrist in Mill Valley, he personally saw to everyone in town who needed eye care, and he was a founding member of the town‘s Chamber of Commerce.
From the 1960s through the ’90s, Dr. Gerald Belanger carried that legacy forward, modernizing Marin Optometry’s technology and investing deeply in the local community.
Then, Dr. Channie Duhn and Sharon Segal continued to nurture and grow these relationships until handing the reins to Dr. Jean Brennan.
